Just looking for the fastest flash drive available. Not really looking for everyones opinion on if ReadyBoost is or isnt worthwhile.

What Does Readyboost Do ReadyBoost enables NAND memory mass storage CompactFlash, SD card, and USB flash drive devices to be used as a cache between the hard drive and random access memory in an effort to increase computing performance.ReadyBoost relies on the SuperFetch and also adjusts its cache based on user activity. It stores this cached data on your removable devices, such as flash drives, CompactFlash memory cards, and Secure Digital. So, all USB 2.0 and newer flash drives hold an advantage in random access times: typicallyĪround 1 ms, compared to 8 ms and upwards for desktop hard drives. Use your flash drive to boost peformance of your PC. What Is ReadyBoost ReadyBoost is a Windows program that caches frequently used files. Sustain anywhere from 2 to 10 times the transfer speed of USB 2.0 flash drives but are equal to or slower than USB 3.0 and Firewire (IEEE 1394) for sequential data. Unfortunately, USB 2.0 flash drives are slower for sequential reads and writes, compared to modern desktop hard drives. I think the improvement Im seeing is due to the faster Mushkin USB 3 flash drive. It also leverages the inherent advantage of two parallel sources from which to read data. With the Flash Drive ReadyBoost Cache (this USB 3 flash drive is fast up to 120MB/sec read compared to a standard USB 2 flash drive at 25MB/sec read) I have noticed much less HD activity and faster response times. The core idea of ReadyBoost is that a flash drive has a much faster seek time (less than 1 ms), allowing it to satisfy requests faster than readingįiles from a hard disk. Windows 7 supports the new exFAT file system which can be under consideration. You can use non-volatile flash memory such as current USB memory stick or SD memory cards to improve the performance of your system. So the issue simply become which USB is the fastest.
